Health professionals are in high demand, especially in underserved rural areas of the West. Educating more students for careers in healthcare is crucial. But it doesn't make fiscal sense for less populous states to create their own programs in every health care field. WICHE collaborates with 12 Western states and Pacific Island jurisdictions to provide a solution. Through the Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP), students pursuing careers in eligible health fields, ranging from optometry to dentistry to veterinary medicine, may enroll in participating programs across state lines and receive substantial tuition support from their home state or territory. Through PSEP, a student can save tuition over the duration of a health degree study. Applicants must be residents of and attend school in eligible Western states and Pacific Island jurisdictions. Students must complete their home state or territory's PSEP application by October 15 the year before their expected enrollment (suggested September 1 deadline for veterinary medicine). Each of the 12 Western states and territories that support PSEP participation has distinct healthcare fields eligible for the program, terms of eligibility, application, and a designated liaison to contact with questions. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education for more information.
