USC-Columbia, founded in 1801, is a public, comprehensive university. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Business; Criminal Justice; Education; Engineering; Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management; Journalism and Mass Communications; Library and Information Science; Liberal Arts; Nursing; Pharmacy; Science and Mathematics; and Social Work; through the Schools of the Environment, Law, Medicine, Music, and Public Health; and through the Honors College. Its 250-acre campus, including a pre-Civil War area listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located in Columbia, in central South Carolina.
