Ohio University, founded in 1804, is a public, comprehensive institution. Its Honors Tutorial College allows high-ability students to benefit from one-on-one tutorials and individualized curricula. Its Center for Community Service provides a variety of volunteer opportunities, some of which are combined with course curricula for academic credit. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Communication, Education, Engineering and Technology, Fine Arts, Health and Human Services, Honors Tutorial, and University College. The main buildings on campus are of 19th century Georgian-style architecture, one of which has been designated a National Historic Landmark. The 1,700-acre campus is located in Athens, 75 miles southeast of Columbus.
