Middle Tennessee State University, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive, public university. It is the number-one choice of valedictorians and salutatorians in the midstate area. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Basic and Applied Sciences, Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and Mass Communication. The student body includes adult learners as well as persons of traditional college age. Its 500-acre campus is located in Murfreesboro, 30 miles southeast of Nashville.
