Fashion Institute of Technology, founded in 1944, is a public school of art and design and business and technology, receiving its principal financial support from the State and City of New York. As a specialized college, it prepares students for exciting careers in fashion and related professions and industries and provides leadership, research and other services to those professions and industries. As a college committed to career education with a broad cultural background, FIT offers not only essential professional preparations but also a full range of liberal arts courses, counseling and placement services, extracurricular activities and access to the cultural life of New York City. Because its graduates are prepared to enter design, production management, advertising, marketing, merchandising and other fashion-oriented fields, it welcomes students with special aptitudes.
