AAUW awards Selected Professions Fellowships to women, including people who identify as women, who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States and who have achieved high standards of academic excellence and show promise of distinction in their respective fields. Priority is given to women who do not already hold a master's or first professional degree. The following disciplines and master's level degrees are eligible for fellowship funding: Architecture (M.Arch.); Computer/information science (MS); Engineering (ME, MS); and Mathematics/statistics (MS). The following disciplines are open only to women from ethnic minority groups historically underrepresented in certain fields within the United States Business administration (MBA); Law (JD); and Medicine (MD), (DO). Two recommendations are required. At least one must be from a professor under whom the applicant has studied recently. The others can be from professors and/or professional colleagues. AAUW does not accept references from dossier services, such as Parchment or Interfolio. Medical students are required to submit a dean's letter as one of their two letters of recommendation. Architecture students must submit reproductions demonstrating a range of their design projects. Please upload 10-12 samples in the online application. These samples are expected to be of professional quality and are very important factors in the evaluation process, during which time they are reviewed by practicing architects and faculty. Please visit the fellowship's website for more information.
