Admissions Tracker Help

The Admissions Tracker allows you to view the qualifications and admissions decisions of thousands of real students. Compare your qualifications to the qualifications of students who were admitted, denied and waitlisted at the colleges you are considering, and see who is applying this year.

The Admissions Tracker is based on information in Admissions Profiles provided by CollegeData users. Each Admissions Profile contains detailed information about the student's college choices, academic and extracurricular qualifications, admissions decisions, and financial aid awards.

You can access Admissions Tracker results throughout CollegeData, anywhere you view information about colleges and universities — in individual College Profiles, and in your Data Locker with your saved colleges and saved Admissions Profiles.

Using the Admissions Tracker

Use the information in the Admissions Tracker as a guideline, to get a general idea of how you might be evaluated at particular colleges. Don't assume that your admissions decisions will be the same as students with qualifications similar to yours. It's easy to compare grades and test scores, but actual admissions decisions made by real-life admissions officers involve many "human" factors and considerations that may not be apparent in an Admissions Profile. Don't decide whether to consider colleges solely on the basis of information in the Admissions Tracker and how you perceive your chances for admission. Talk it over with your counselor, parents and college admissions representatives.

Keep in mind that Admissions Tracker results include only students who have completed Admissions Profiles — not all students who applied, or will apply, to the college. Information provided by users may not be accurate, complete or up-to-date. CollegeData does not verify information provided by users in Admissions Profiles.

Track a College

Select the college class year and enter the name of the college you want to track admissions for.

Select a College Class

Select the college class year you want to track. College class is not the same as high school graduating class. Students in the high school class of 2018 who plan to go directly to college after graduating are in the college class of 2022. Multi-Year includes the college classes of 2018-2020.

Enter a College Name

Enter the name of the college you want to track. As you type, a drop down list of matching colleges will display.

• If the college you want is on the list, select it. This will automatically submit the form and return your Admissions Tracker Results.
• If the college you want isn't on the list, hit the Enter or Return key on your keyboard or click the "Get Results" button to see a list of all colleges that match the text you entered. Select the correct college name to get your results.

If you aren't sure of the exact name, enter key word(s) in the name. For example, if you enter "San Diego" your choices will include San Diego Christian College, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, and University of California, San Diego. If you enter part of the name, your results will include all colleges that contain that text. You can also enter well known abbreviations, such as UCLA or SUNY.

Tracker Ticker

The Tracker Ticker makes it easy to check the latest Admissions Tracker activity at the most popular colleges as well as at the specific colleges you are most interested in. Your College List is your own personalized list of colleges. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to create and manage this list. The Top 50 Colleges includes the 50 colleges with the highest number of Admissions Profiles. (Fewer than 50 colleges may display if the number of Admissions Profiles in the database for the selected college class year is limited.)

The Tracker Ticker displays the total number of Admissions Profiles in the Admissions Tracker database for each college, as well as a breakdown by application status. The numbers are updated in real time — so as soon as a new Admissions Profile is added or someone updates their application status, the Ticker will be updated. A flame icon next to a college name indicates that profiles for that college have been updated that day.

Change College Class

Tracker Ticker results are displayed by college class. To change the college class year, select a different tab. College class is not the same as high school graduating class. Students in the high school class of 2018 who plan to go directly to college after graduating are in the college class of 2022.

Add a College

To add a college to Your College List, enter the name of a college you want to add. As you type, a drop down list of matching colleges will display.

• If the college you want is on the list, select it to automatically add it to your list.
• If the college you want is not on the list, hit the enter key or click the ">>" button to see a list of all colleges that match the text you entered. Select the correct college name to add it to your list.

Remove a College

To remove a college from Your College List, click the appropriate red X. If you are synchronizing with Your College List in your Admissions Profile, you will have the option to remove the colleges from one or both lists.

Import All Colleges

Select "Import all colleges from your Admissions Profile" to add all the colleges in your Admissions Profile to your Ticker list. You will only see this option if Your College List in the Tracker Ticker is empty but you have colleges listed in your Admissions Profile.

Synch With Admissions Profile

You can synchronize Your College List in the Tracker Ticker with Your College List in your Admissions Profile, or you can manage the lists separately. If you select "Yes," the colleges you add or remove in your Ticker list will also be added and removed in your Admissions Profile. If you select "No," the changes you make to your Ticker list will not affect the list in your Admissions Profile. Use "Yes" when you want your action to be made to both lists; use "No" when you want your action to be specific to the Ticker list.

Sort Your Ticker Results

You may sort Your College List and the Top 50 Colleges by college name, flame icon An Admissions Profile for this college was added or updated today!, total number of profiles, and any of the application statuses. The current sort is indicated by this icon . To change the sort, click the appropriate column heading. To reverse the sort order — for example from low-to-high to high-to-low or from a-z to z-a — click the column heading again.

Admissions Tracker Results

Your Admissions Tracker Results includes the Admissions Profiles of CollegeData users in the selected college class whose Admissions Profiles include the selected college. You can view your Admissions Tracker Results in two formats: List View and Scattergram.

Summary

The Admissions Tracker Results Summary displays the average, low, and high GPAs and test scores of CollegeData users whose Admissions Profiles list the selected college as a college choice for the class year you've selected. If a Profile doesn't include a test score or GPA, it won't be counted in the average, but it will be included in results. Your Admissions Profile data will also display in the Summary when you are logged in.

Change College Class

Admissions Tracker Results are displayed by college class. To change the college class year, select a different tab. To view results for more than one college class, select the Multi-Year tab or enter a range of years in the Multi-Year filter. When you change the college class, the results in the Summary, List, and Scattergram will change. College class is not the same as high school graduating class. Students in the high school class of 2018 who plan to go directly to college after graduating are in the college class of 2022.

View Type

List View: Select "List View" in the View Type pull-down menu to view the results in a sortable list.
Scattergram: Select "Scattergram" in the View Type pull-down menu to view the results in a graph. The scattergram graphs the Admissions Profiles in your results by GPA and SAT or ACT scores.

Filter Your Results

You can filter your results by Application Status, Decision Type, Applicant Type, Gender, High School Location, High School Type, Residency, and When Added/Updated. Uncheck the boxes associated with the criteria you do NOT wish to be included in the results. Check "Select All" to include all criteria in the category. When you use the filters, the results in the Summary, Table, and Scattergram will change to include only those Admissions Profiles that match the selected criteria.

• Multi-Year: To view Admissions Tracker results for more than one college class combined, enter a range of class years. Results for the college classes of 2020 and earlier use "old SAT" scores, while results for the college classes of 2021 and later use "new SAT" scores. You cannot view a range that includes class years using both old and new SAT scores. Valid ranges are 2009-2020 and 2021-2024.

• High School Location: Click the map to make it larger. To select particular locations, uncheck "Select All" and click on individual states, regions, and areas you wish to include. A pin indicates that a location is selected and will be included in the results.

Tracker Results List View

Your Admissions Tracker Results include the Admissions Profiles of all CollegeData users in the selected class year whose Admissions Profiles include the selected college. Your Admissions Profile will also display at the top of the list when you are logged in.

Pagination

If your Admissions Tracker results include more than 50 Admissions Profiles, your results will be paginated. To go to a particular page of results, click on the page number. If your results include more than eight pages, "next" and "previous" links will be provided with the page numbers. Click "next" to go to the next set of eight pages. Click "previous" to go to the previous set of eight pages.

Sort Your Results

You may sort your results by profile name, gender, whether new or recently updated, high school type, high school state, unweighted GPA, weighted GPA. SAT scores (SAT Mathematics, SAT Critical Reading, and SAT Writing for college class years 2020 and earlier; SAT Math and SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) for college class years 2021 and later), ACT Composite score, and Application Status, as well as whether the student applied EA/ED (early action or early admission), or was a legacy or recruited athlete. The current sort is indicated by this icon . To change the sort, click the appropriate column heading. To reverse the sort order — for example from low-to-high to high-to-low or from a-z to z-a — click the column heading again. This icon  is the column heading for gender and whether new or recently updated. Mouse over it and click to select a sort option. If you have more than one page of results, the sort type and order will be applied to all pages.

View Admissions Profiles

Click a profile name to view the full Admissions Profile. Each Admissions Profile contains detailed information provided by an individual CollegeData user about his or her college choices, academic and extracurricular qualifications, admissions decisions, and financial aid awards.

Save Admissions Profiles to Your Data Locker

To add an Admissions Profile to your Data Locker, check the box in the Save column and then click the "Save Checked" button. To save all Admissions Profiles on the page, check the "Select All" box and then click the "Save Checked" button. Profiles already saved to your locker have a "Saved" label instead of a checkbox. To remove an Admissions Profile you have saved, view the profile and then use the "Remove This Profile" link, or go to the Saved Admissions Profile list in your Data Locker and check the appropriate box to remove.

Tracker Results Scattergram

The Admissions Tracker Scattergram graphs the Admissions Profiles in your results by GPA and SAT or ACT scores. Each icon on the Scattergram represents an individual CollegeData user whose Admissions Profile lists the selected college as a college choice for the class year you've selected.

The icons have different shapes and colors to reflect different application statuses, decision types and applicant types. See the key below the Scattergram for details. Each point on the Scattergram represents a unique GPA and test score combination. Mouse over an icon to see the corresponding profile name, gender, application status, and GPA and test score values.

If you have an Admissions Profile, a special star icon representing you will display in the Scattergram when you are logged in.

Horizontal and Vertical Axis

The vertical (Y) axis is GPA and the horizontal (X) axis is test score. When you switch an axis, the number of profiles in the Scattergram will change to include only those that provide the data you've selected for the horizontal and vertical axes. Not all profiles contain all data, so you may see fewer profiles in the Scattergram than in the Table.

• Vertical Axis: GPA is on a 4-point scale where A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points, D=1 point, F=0 points.

Mean Lines

The Mean Lines indicate the average values for Accepted and Denied students.

• The mean lines for accepted students are green; the point at which they intersect represents the average GPA and test score for accepted students.
• The mean lines for denied students are red; the point at which they intersect represents the average GPA and test score for denied students. Select "Show" to display the Mean Lines. Select "Hide" to remove the Mean Lines.

Admissions Tracker Profiles

Each Admissions Tracker Profile displays the information provided by an individual CollegeData user. The profiles are intended to be anonymous, so you won't know the identity of any other student (and no one else will know yours). CollegeData automatically creates random profile names, but users have the option to edit the name. Admissions Profiles are stored securely in users' Data Lockers, and may be updated at any time. Updates are incorporated into the Admissions Tracker results and displayed immediately.

Profile icons are used to indicate gender and how recently a profile was added or updated. One of these icons This Admissions Profile was updated today! This Admissions Profile was updated today! This Admissions Profile was updated today! at the top of the page indicates the profile was updated that day. This icon This Admissions Profile was recently created! at the top of the page indicates that the profile was created within the past seven days.

Highlight Recent Changes

You can highlight recently updated information in an Admission Profile by when it was updated. Check the box(es) to highlight information that was updated during the corresponding time period(s). Check "Select All" to include all time periods.

• Today: Highlight information updated today.
• This Week: Highlight information updated this week (includes today).
• Last Week: Highlight information updated last week.
• This Month: Highlight information updated this month (includes today).

College Choices

The college choices list includes all colleges the user has applied to, plans to apply to, or otherwise has some interest in.

• College/School: If a icon appears after a college name, the student has indicated that he or she applied to a specific academic school or program, such as the College of Engineering. Click the icon to view the information. If the student's college class year is 2016 or earlier, the college/school will be displayed in the college choices table.
• Rank: Choice is the rank the student gave the college; a rank of 1 means the this is the student's first choice school.
• EA/ED: An "X" means the student has applied/plans to apply early action or early decision.
• Legacy: An "X" means the students' parents or other close relatives attended the college.
• Athlete: An "X" means the student was/is a recruited athlete.
• Application Status:

• Applied for Financial Aid: Indicates if the student applied for financial aid of any kind, including grants, scholarships, loans or work-study employment. At many colleges the admissions application is also used as an application for some scholarships, so it's possible that students will be considered for and receive financial aid even if they indicate they did not apply. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later.
• Received Financial Aid: Indicates if the student was offered any type of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans and work-study. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• Total Grants and Scholarships: Total amount of grants and scholarships awarded from all sources and listed on the student's financial aid award letter. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
  Merit Aid: Total amount of scholarships and other merit aid awarded by the college and listed on the student's financial aid award letter. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• College Grants: Total amount of need-based grants awarded by the college and listed on the student's financial aid award letter. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• Government Grants: Total amount of need-based grants awarded by federal and state government programs and listed on the student's financial aid award letter. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• Other Grants and Scholarships: Total amount of scholarships and merit aid listed on the student's financial aid award letter from sources other than the college. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• Loans: Total amount of loans accepted by the student and listed on the student's financial aid award letter. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• Work: Total amount of work-study and other employment accepted by the student and listed on the student's financial aid award letter. Only available for students in the college class of 2017 and later. You must be logged in to your CollegeData account to view this.
• FAFSA EFC: The amount the student and his or her family is expected to contribute toward college for a single academic year. The FAFSA EFC (Expected Family Contribution) is calculated based on information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Colleges use the FAFSA EFC to determine student's eligibility for federal and state financial aid, and many colleges also use it to determine eligibility for financial aid from the college's own resources. Academics and Test Scores

Much of the information in these sections is self-explanatory.

• GPA: Unweighted grade point average is capped at 4.00. Weighted grade point average is capped at 5.00, allowing up to 1 extra grade point for honors type courses if awarded by the school. Students whose high schools use other grading systems are asked to covert to the 4-point scale.
• High School Coursework: The number of years (not semesters) completed in each subject area, and the number of years of which were taken at the honors level (including honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Higher Level, and college-level courses).
• Test Scores: If a score is not listed, it generally means the student plans to take the test or has not yet received the score.

Extracurricular Profile

Students are asked to provide information about accomplishments and extracurricular activities that were included or which they plan to include in their college applications.

• Activities/Leadership: Participation in sports, hobbies, music/arts, volunteer work, community service, employment etc, including years and amount of time participated and any leadership positions.
• Honors/Awards: Academic honors, service awards, athletic awards, etc.
• Additional Information: Any information that colleges are or will be aware of which is not covered elsewhere, such as the impact of recommendations, interviews, and any circumstances, special talents or qualities that may have influenced/will influence admissions decisions positively or negatively.

Saving an Admissions Profile to Your Data Locker

To add an Admissions Profile to your Data Locker, click the "Save" link or icon at the top of the page. Go to the Saved Admissions Profile page in your Data Locker for easy access to the profiles you have bookmarked.

Removing an Admissions Profile From Your Data Locker

To remove an Admissions Profile you have saved, click the "Remove" link or icon located above the Profile name and college class year.

Flagging an Admissions Profile for Review

If you see an Admissions Profile that appears to be fake or contains offensive information, click the "Flag" link or icon at the top of the page to let us know. We'll review it and, if necessary, remove it.

Viewing and Editing Your Own Admissions Profile

If you are eligible to complete an Admissions Profile, you will see two links, one labeled "Edit My Admissions Profile" and another labeled "View My Admissions Profile." Use the Edit link to add and update information in your Admissions Profile in your Data Locker. You can also access your Admissions Profile from the Data Locker home page or using the navigation at the top of the page. Use the View link to see what your Admissions Profile looks like when viewed in the Admissions Tracker.
