Villanova University, founded in 1842, is a private, church-affiliated, comprehensive university. In the Roman Catholic Augustinian tradition, Villanova emphasizes the disciplines of philosophy and theology, seeking to influence the search for world peace and justice. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Commerce and Finance, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Nursing. Through academic programs and the pastoral ministry, the university provides for its faculty, students and staff the opportunities for public service to the community. Ultimately, all of the programs and support offered in this arena are seen as a means of developing the total person intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, culturally, socially and physically. Its 254-acre campus is located in Villanova, 12 miles west of Philadelphia.
