The University of Notre Dame, founded in 1842, is a church-affiliated, comprehensive university. It seeks to be the world''s foremost Catholic university. It continues to increase its resources, both human and physical, to provide an outstanding education for all its students. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Arts and Letters, Business Administration, Engineering, and Science and the School of Architecture. Its 1,250-acre campus, with a dominant Victorian Gothic architectural style, is located in Notre Dame, five miles outside South Bend.
