The U.S. Military Academy is a public service institution. Founded in 1802, it adopted coeducation in 1976. The mission of the academy is to educate, train and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character, committed to the values of duty, honor and country; professional growth throughout a career as an officer in the United States Army; and a lifetime of service to the nation. Its 16,000-acre campus is located in West Point, on the Hudson River, 50 miles north of New York City.
